8 Mil -224 microns security window film
The 8 Mil (224 microns) Security Window Film is made for mid-sized windows. This 224-micron barrier meets the DIN 52337 and EN 12600 standards and works as a defence against break-ins.
The 8 Mil film can be ordered online. It suits those who fit film themselves and want to make the glass in a home or business harder to break through.

The 8 Mil (224 microns) film is made for mid-sized window reinforcement and covers a range of glass areas:
- Ground-level windows in residential and commercial buildings
- Glass panels in entry doors
- Glazing in balcony and porch doors
- Windows in basements and service areas
- Shopfront glazing
- Conservatory glass and similar structures
This clear film keeps the glass transparent. The 8 Mil (224 microns) film has a strong adhesive backing, suits different window designs and lasts over nine years without changing its appearance.
Strength and Resilience of the 8 Mil Security Film
Install the 8 Mil (224 microns) film indoors, so it cannot be removed easily from outside. It withstands up to 35 kg per square metre of force in line with the DIN 52337 safety standard.
Under heavy impact the glass may crack, but the film stays intact: it holds the broken pieces together, keeps the pane in the frame and prevents entry.

A medium-sized window is one with an area of up to 1.8 square metres. For windows larger than this, a thicker film is advised.
The film lasts as long as standard window glass protection films - over nine years - without bubbling or changes in appearance.
How to order 8 Mil Security Film cut to size
- Enter the width and height of your glass in whole centimetres - for example, 100 × 150 cm.
- The price for your size appears straight away, without registration.
- Add the piece to the cart and place the order - we cut it and send it ready to fit.
Cutting is done on a CNC plotter with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. The largest single piece we cut is 280 × 280 cm. Pieces are cut from rolls of professional width 152.4 cm, so anything wider is made in two parts - before such an order goes into production we contact the buyer and agree how the piece is divided. Orders are delivered across the UK by UPS or FedEx.
Installation Tips for the 8 Mil Security Film
For best results, apply the film to the inner side of the window and keep the gap between film and frame minimal. In some cases the film can be applied beneath window glazing beads, though this requires experience, particularly with wooden frames.
Installing the 8 Mil film takes more physical effort than standard films. Use a stronger tool and a more diluted solution.

Critical Installation Advice for the 8 Mil Film
- Apply the film within a week of receipt. For longer storage, unroll and flatten the film to avoid liner detachment and pattern imprinting.
- The adhesive layer fully cures within 7 to 14 days, depending on indoor temperature. The film reaches its full protective strength after curing.
Our company provides a selection of security window films, from higher protection grades to thinner ones. Consider the thicker 12 Mil film or, for smaller glass, the 4 Mil variant.
