Window film

Window Film

Window film is a polymer-based material designed to enhance and modify the properties of glass. This ingenious material can transform regular glass to become opaque, shield against intense heat or bright sunlight, and more.

Essentially, window film enhances the functionality of existing glass, tailoring it to the specific needs of the client. Be it beautifying the glass, making it more secure, or strengthening it against break-ins – all these feats can be achieved using this specialised glass covering.

The Science Behind Window Film Specifications

Every professional-grade window film boasts a standard set of technical characteristics. These specifications provide insights into the capabilities of a specific glass film. In layman’s terms, they inform users about the effect the film imparts. For instance:

  • VLT: Light transmission capacity
  • VLR: Light reflection rate
  • IR rejection: Infrared reflection level
  • UV rejection: Ability to reflect ultraviolet radiation
  • TSER: Total solar energy repelled
  • Thickness: Gauge of the film

These technical features enable customers to make informed comparisons between different types of window films. All our professional glass films come with these detailed technical descriptions. Their inclusion signifies our commitment to quality and underscores our meticulous approach as manufacturers.

Key Insights About Window Films

Choosing the Ideal Window Film for Your Needs

Every type of window film possesses unique characteristics. According to these features, glass films can be categorised into several primary types:

Each film type serves a unique purpose, addressing distinct requirements. While some films may share similar properties, unfortunately, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution in the market. It's crucial to consider the attributes and potential of each film type to achieve the desired outcome.

We offer an online purchasing option for window films in the UK, complete with hands-on courier delivery. Make an informed choice and transform your space today.

Recognising Quality in Window Films

What does it mean to have high-quality window films, and what do we offer to our UK clients? A premium glass film remains unchanged in appearance and retains its mechanical properties throughout its specified service life. The glass film we provide to our customers

  • Do not blur or bubble up;
  • Stay adhered without peeling or flapping;
  • Maintain their original colour.

Indicators of inferior window film:

  • Feels extremely thin – these cheaper films tend to crack easily and have a significantly shorter lifespan. Additionally, they lack a protective coating, leading to visible scratches and defects;
  • Poor adhesive strength resulting in weak adherence to the surface;
  • A cloudy appearance – some manufacturers cut costs by using recyclable resources like plastic bottles and cellulose packaging. As these materials aren’t adequately purified, the resultant window coverings lack clarity and appear murky.
  • Dull reflection – low-quality mirror and sun-protective coverings often have insufficient metallization, yielding a weak mirror effect and ineffective heat reflection.

The Longevity of Glass Film

  • Interior glass film typically lasts over nine years
  • Exterior films can serve for over four years. If applied to horizontal or vertical surfaces like roof windows or glass domes, expect up to five years. However, this varies based on specific conditions.

The environment heavily influences the longevity of externally applied films. Elements like weather, temperature fluctuations, and even mechanical factors such as gusty winds or birds can play a role. While exterior coverings come with allowances for these influences, they generally have a shorter lifespan than interior ones

While films don't become non-functional immediately after their service life, they do start to show signs of wear. A natural decline of 10 to 20 per cent per year is standard.

The right choice of glass film ensures long-lasting performance in the UK climate and beyond.

Maintenance Insights

Our online store offers professional-grade glass films. All our coverings come with a 2H protective layer, meaning they’re resistant to mechanical wear and standard household cleaning agents.

Please note:

  1. Do not treat the glass covering with steam generators or high-rise pumps. Such treatments can weaken the adhesive layer and lead to the covering peeling off.
  2. It's essential to understand that the glass covering and its adhesive layer need adequate time to dry thoroughly. Depending on the region and season, this might be one to two weeks.
